Political Cartoons

This cartoon is an example of how foreign diplomats were treated much better than the local African Americans. It's a scary thought to think that you might be considered third rate in place you lived in for years to someone who has recently arrived. Equal Rights is brought up to question here. If these foreigners can get the utmost respect because they have positions of power, why can't honest, hard working African Americans, who have to deal with all kinds of discrimination on a daily basis?

This cartoon details how Health, Education, and Welfare were viewed as “second rate” compared to military establishments and arm costs. In a sense, this understandable because of the Vietnam War. Yet, it's not like Americans asked for the war. The money that was spent should have gone to social and economic programs to help our economy. Many people think Johnson spent too much of an effort in a foreign nation instead of helping the people in the own country that he leads.

The Little Rock Nine is an example of how sheer racism can lead to such violent upheavals. The cartoon’s depiction of his lack of remorse proves how strong some people’s discrimination for African Americans was. Orval Faubus had such a sense of racism, not only did he use the Arkansas Nation Guard to prevent the African Americans from going to school, he closed down said school for an entire year, from 1958 to 1959, known as "The Lost Year".
